Bangkok
My first night Thailand was a bit of a chill one. My flight landed around 9pm, and I didn't get to my hostel until like 10pm. After an entire day of traveling, I knew I wanted something close and easy, so after grabbing a quick bite and showering I was off to bed.
The following day was when I was going to do Bangkok properly and get to the heart of the city. It was going perfect. I grabbed the right bus, which took me to the right skytrain station. There I got off at the right exit and transferred to the next stop, and arrived at my hostel with ease. My first time in Thailand and I felt like a pro. I arrived at Everyday Bangkok hostel. Only to realize at check-in, that I had booked Everyday Bangkok Khao San Road. Over an hour walk away. Pissed. I was going so good too.
Luckily, the woman at the counter called me a Grab (Uber for Thailand), and it was only like 20 minutes away and didn’t cost me too much. After arriving at the right hostel this time, I hung around with some friends for a bit before the woman who worked at the hostel took a few of us on a bike tour around Bangkok. This was really cool. They took us to a bunch of temples and historical places. We finished at a rooftop bar for sunset, with a free beer in hand overlooking the city.
Later that night, me and a few people went down to check out Khao San Road. The supposed street for backpacker heaven. Full of bars, clubs and street vendors. However, it was a lot less busy than expected. Even some of the people I was with who have been there before said they’ve never seen it so dead like that before. A mixture of them repaving the road, and the Coronavirus seems to have hindered travel here, as well as most places around the world, South East Asia especially.
My next couple days in Bangkok, were full of sight-seeing and visiting the temples. The Grand Palace was very cool to see, but you definitely need several hours to see it all properly, which I regrettably didn’t allot enough time for it. However, I will be back in Bangkok for a couple nights in a few weeks before I head to Cambodia, so I’m going to make sure I get a few of the famous temples done that I didn’t get a chance to this time.
My next post about the Southern part of Thailand, specifically Phuket and Krabi will be up in a few days. I got some amazing pictures from these places too so stay tuned!
